The Heart and Vascular Institute at Advocate Christ Medical Center performs more than 1,300 open heart surgeries — more than any hospital in Illinois — and 5,000 cardiac interventions every year. The hospital is nationally ranked in cardiology by U.S. News & World Report for 2014-15, is certified as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care and is Magnet-accredited. The team at Advocate Christ Medical Center was the first in the U.S. to implant a HeartMate II ventricular assist device as well as the first team in Illinois to perform a robotic mitral valve repair surgery. The hospital was also the first in the nation to achieve Advanced Heart Failure certification from The Joint Commission, which indicates the hospital complies with Joint Commission standards for disease-specific care.
