Akron (Ohio) General Medical Center.
Akron General Medical Center was ranked as high-performing in cardiology and the fifth best hospital in Ohio by U.S. News & World Report in 2014-15. In March 2014, the hospital became one of the first in Ohio to implant the smallest implantable cardiac monitoring device. The 532-bed hospital is also Magnet-recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Akron General’s median time-to-treatment for STEMI heart attacks is 57 minutes, nearly 37 percent faster than the American College of Cardiology’s 90 minute recommendation. The hospital also launched a new “hybrid” operating room that accommodates both surgical and endovascular procedures. Such a room allows both types of procedures to be performed at the same time, reducing patient OR time.
