Mercy Iowa City (Iowa). Four Sisters of Mercy, who traveled by train carrying as many medical supplies as possible, arrived in Iowa at the request of State University of Iowa’s medical school dean to found Mercy Iowa City in 1873. As of 2015, the 218-bed acute care hospital was staffed by more than 225 physicians and housed 25 private rooms for outpatient surgery. Healthgrades named the hospital among its 2017 Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients, an honor Mercy Iowa City has received each year for the past decade.
