CMS releases 2017 Medicare Advantage premium rates: 4 takeaways

CMS announced premium rates for 2017, estimating the average Medicare Advantage premium will decrease $1.19.

Here are four takeaways from CMS' announcement.

1. Sixty-seven percent of Medicare Advantage enrollees will not see a premium increase next year.

2. Monthly premiums will fall from $32.59 on average in 2016 to $31.40 on average in 2017.

3. Medicare Advantage plans will offer more enrollee benefits next year like dental, vision and hearing.

4. CMS predicts Medicare enrollment to increase to 18.5 million enrollees in 2017, with 32 percent of enrollees in a Medicare Advantage plan.
