Aetna to relocate HQs to New York City

Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna will move its headquarters to New York City beginning late 2018.

The move will have "minimal impact on Aetna's Connecticut-based associates," Aetna said. The company will keep several key operations in Hartford, but its "long-term commitment to Connecticut will be based on the state's economic health."

The payer added it "remains hopeful that lawmakers will come to an agreement that puts Connecticut on sound financial footing, and that the state will support needed reforms to make Hartford a vibrant city once again."

Aetna's new corporate headquarters will be located at 61 Ninth Ave. Mark Bertolini, CEO of Aetna, said "New York City is a knowledge economy hub, and a driver of the innovations that will play a significant part in our ongoing transformation."

Roughly 250 employees will move to New York City, and about 6,000 employees will remain in Connecticut, according to Hartford Courant.
