KishHealth inks deal to join Northwestern Memorial HealthCare: 5 things to know

KishHealth System in DeKalb, Ill., has signed a definitive agreement to join Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, an academic health system whose entities operate as Northwestern Medicine.   

Here are five things to know about the transaction.

1. The agreement was approved by the governing boards of KishHealth System and Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and remains subject to regulatory approval.

2. With the proposed expansion, Northwestern Medicine will grow to more than 90 locations, including six hospitals. Care will be provided by a combined workforce of 26,500 employees and physicians, spanning eight Illinois counties.

3. Kevin Poorten, president and CEO of KishHealth System, will remain president of KishHealth System after it becomes part of Northwestern Medicine.

4. Mr. Poorten expressed excitement about the deal. "We are incredibly pleased to have reached this milestone with Northwestern Medicine; our two organizations share many values and a common emphasis on keeping patients at the center of all we do," he said in a news release. "By joining Northwestern Medicine, we will be able to bring an expansion of resources and opportunities for advanced care to the communities we serve."

5. KishHealth System signed a letter of intent to explore an affiliation with Northwestern Memorial HealthCare back in May.
