The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place or were announced in October, beginning with the most recent.

1. Court approves Prime's takeover of bankrupt Georgia hospital
A U.S. bankruptcy court approved an agreement for Prime Healthcare Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, to purchase Riverdale, Ga.-based Southern Regional Medical Center, which filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year.

2. Ascension takes on Wheaton Franciscan facilities in Southeast Wisconsin: 6 things to know
St. Louis-based Ascension signed a letter of intent with the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters for the transfer of all Southeast Wisconsin operations and related corporate services of Glendale, Wis.-based Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare to Ascension Wisconsin.

3. Marshfield Clinic, Aspirus call off partnership
Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic and Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus abandoned plans to jointly operate hospitals in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Eau Claire, Wis.

4. PeaceHealth, Providence Health & Services form strategic affiliation
Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth and Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services are creating a strategic affiliation to enhance healthcare in the communities they serve, beginning with a new health and wellness center in Vancouver.

5. Saratoga Hospital, Albany Medical Center to partner
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Saratoga Hospital and Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center signed a letter of intent to affiliate.

6. Prime inks deal to expand its reach to Ohio
Prime Healthcare Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, signed a definitive agreement to acquire East Liverpool, Ohio-based River Valley Health Partners, which includes 152-bed East Liverpool City Hospital.

7. Merger talks back on between Lifespan, Care New England
For the third time, merger talks are on the table between two Providence, R.I.-based health systems — Lifespan and Care New England.

8. BridgePoint eyes takeover of Laurel Regional: 4 things to know
Washington, D.C.-based BridgePoint Healthcare expressed interest in taking over Laurel (Md.) Regional Hospital.

9. CHS to sell Florida hospital to BayCare
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems entered into a definitive agreement to sell 72-bed Bartow (Fla.) Regional Medical Center and its related outpatient services to Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System.

10. Prospect to acquire Crozer-Keystone Health System
Los Angeles-based for-profit hospital operator Prospect Medical Holdings reached a preliminary deal to acquire Springfield, Pa.-based Crozer-Keystone Health System.

11. Alpena Regional enters partnership negotiations with MidMichigan Health
The board of trustees of Alpena (Mich.) Regional Medical Center signed a letter of intent to partner with nonprofit MidMichigan Health in Midland, an affiliate of University of Michigan Health System.

12. Tri-City, UC San Diego affiliate
UC San Diego Health and Oceanside, Calif.-based Tri-City Healthcare District entered a long-term, strategic affiliation to sustainably improve the quality of care they provide.

13. Cleveland Clinic, Valley Health System affiliate for cardiac care
Ridgewood, N.J.-based Valley Health System affiliated with Cleveland Clinic's Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute.

14. Mayo Clinc, St. Vincent's partner for cancer care in Florida
Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic's branch in Jacksonville, Fla., is teaming up with local St. Vincent's HealthCare to build a new cancer clinic at St. Vincent's Medical Center Riverside.

15. Montefiore expands New York hospital network
Bronx, N.Y.-based Montefiore Health System expanded its footprint, as St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, N.Y., agreed to join the system.

16. Anderson Hospital, Community Memorial Hospital to affiliate
Maryville, Ill.-based Anderson Hospital and Staunton, Ill.-based Community Memorial Hospital signed a letter of intent to form a partnership.

17. Hartford HealthCare calls off merger talks with Day Kimball, blames pending Medicaid cuts
Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare called off merger talks with Putnam, Conn.-based Day Kimball Healthcare due to pending state Medicaid cuts.

18. Aria Health signs letter of intent to join Jefferson Health
Philadelphia-based Aria Health System and Philadelphia-based Jefferson — a newly formed organization that includes Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health — signed a non-binding letter of intent, which will facilitate discussions toward integrating Aria into Jefferson Health.

19. T.J. Regional Health explores takeover of bankrupt Kentucky hospital
Glasgow, Ky.-based T.J. Regional Health is making a proposal to acquire Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, Ky.209.

20. 3 things to know about Iberia Medical Center's planned acquisition of Dauterive Hospital
Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia, La., and Progressive Acute Care, a Louisiana healthcare system based in Mandeville, entered into a non-binding letter of intent for IMC to acquire Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.

21. Scripps, Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District enter into affiliation
San Diego-based Scripps Health entered into an affiliation agreement with Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District in Brawley, Calif. The two-year agreement marks Scripps' first hospital affiliation outside San Diego County.
