Tenet, Baptist Health create joint venture to operate Alabama network: 4 things to know

Birmingham, Ala.-based Baptist Health System and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare have formed a joint venture to own and operate a network of healthcare facilities serving Birmingham and central Alabama.

Here are four things to know about the joint venture.

1. The new organization unites Baptist Health System's four hospitals — Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega, Ala., Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Ala. and Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, Ala. — with Brookwood Medical Center.

2. Under the joint venture arrangement, Tenet is the majority partner and will manage the network's operations.

3. Together, the new system has more than 1,700 licensed beds, nine outpatient centers, 68 physician clinics delivering primary and specialty care, more than 7,000 employees and about 1,500 affiliated physicians.

4. In a news release, Keith Parrott, CEO of the new organization, who previously served as CEO of Baptist Health System, said the new partnership "will strengthen our collective efforts throughout the region while also preserving and supporting the Baptist tradition and our faith-based approach to quality healthcare."
