Now, the ACGME has revealed more information about the Pursuing Excellence Initiative.
The PEI contains three key groups of individuals.
1. Pathway Innovators. Numerous teams of hospital and health system executives make up this component of the PEI. Together, these leaders from select systems will work to enhance the learning process within their organizations. They will meet multiple times per year to learn from each other.
2. Pathway Leaders. This aspect of the PEI will bring together leaders from ACGME-accredited sponsoring institutions who want to improve their performance in one of six areas: patient safety, healthcare quality, care transitions, supervision, professionalism and duty hours/fatigue management and mitigation.
3. Pathway Learners. The Pathway Innovators and Pathway Leaders will share their knowledge with the Pathway Learners. The Pathway Learners will then provide feedback on this information and how it can better be shared across the broader spectrum of healthcare.
