71% of job seekers avoid companies that receive bad press

Seventy-one percent of people looking for jobs avoid applying to companies that have recently received negative press, according to CNBC.

The new survey from CareerBuilder.com found that women were more likely to avoid these firms than men, with 79 percent of women saying they would avoid them compared to 61 percent of men. CareerBuilder interviewed 3,400 employees and 2,300 hiring and human resources managers for the survey.

"In today's 24/7 news cycle and social media world, earning and maintaining a good reputation can be a challenge," said Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder. "It's easier than ever before for job seekers to research potential employers.
