12 latest IT executive moves

The following health IT executive moves occurred within the past eight weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health named Thomas August CISO.

2. G. Daniel Martich, MD, CMIO of Pittsburgh-based UPMC, is stepping down from his position to become CMO of Morgantown-based West Virginia United Health System.

3. Cincinnati-based TriHealth selected John Ward as CIO, a position he held in the interim capacity since December 2014.

4. James Carder, former director of security informatics at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, left Mayo to join Boulder, Colo.-based LogRhythm as its CISO.

5. The Obama administration nominated Karen DeSalvo, MD, national coordinator for health IT, for the assistant secretary for health at HHS.

6. Andretta Reed was named vice president of health information management operations and coding at Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare.

7. Capella Healthcare also named Scott Flesicher director of financial IT applications.

8. Kevin Townes was named director of technical services at Capella Healthcare.

9. Amanda Hebert was selected as senior analyst of the patient portal at Capella Healthcare.

10. Jake Dorst, CIO of Tahoe Forest Hospital District in Truckee, Calif., was named interim CEO. He will retain his CIO duties while serving in this new position.

11. Jim Wesley, CIO of John Muir Health, became a consultant to John Muir Health as senior vice president of data and analytics.

12. Chad Eckes, vice president and CIO of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, was named executive vice president and CFO of the hospital.
