Banner Health net income jumps 32% in Q1: 5 key points

Phoenix-based nonprofit Banner Health reported net income of $107.8 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2015, up 32 percent from the comparable period of last year, according to the system's recently released unaudited financial statement.

Here are five key points from Banner's first-quarter financials:

1. Banner reported revenue of nearly $1.6 billion, up from $1.3 billion in the same period of 2014.

2. The system posted net patient service revenue of $1.4 billion, up 9.3 percent from the comparable period of last year.

3. Total admissions at Banner's facilities were up nearly 6 percent from the same period of last year.

4. Banner's total expenses for the first quarter increased to $1.5 billion, up 20.7 percent from the same period of 2014.

5. The system reported operating income of $85.9 million, up from $84.2 million in the comparable period of 2014.
