Henry Ford Health System swings to profit: 5 key points

Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System reported net income of $21.1 million for the three months that ended March 31, up from a net loss of nearly $16 million during the same period a year ago.

Here are five key points from the system’s financials for last quarter.

1. The system’s revenue increased to $1.2 billion, up from $1.1 billion in the same period of last year.

2. Henry Ford reported net patient service revenue of $546.2 million, up from $510 million a year ago.

3. The system’s expenses increased 3.8 percent in the three months that ended March 31, growing to nearly $1.2 billion.

4. Henry Ford reported investment income of nearly $11.6 million, up from $10.9 million in the comparable period of last year.

5. Total admissions at Henry Ford’s facilities remained almost unchanged in the three months that ended March 31, growing to 23,809, up from 23,087 in the same period of last year.
