Mr. Menendez is a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee and has been a longtime supporter of expanding graduate medical education. He is also the Senate lead of the Physician Shortage Reduction Act, which, if passed, would lift the cap on graduate medical education positions to create an additional 14,000 residents over seven years.

The added residency positions would be funded by Medicare, according to Mr. Menendez’s website.
