Poor leadership transparency tied to low employee engagement: Gallup

Halfway through 2025, 32% of U.S. employees are engaged in their work, according to an Aug. 6 Gallup article.

The results are based on surveys conducted May 7-16 with 17,660 U.S. employed adults.

Here are six things to know:

1. Engagement is up one percentage point since the first quarter and above 2024’s 11-year low of 30%, according to Gallup.

2. Fewer than 20% of employees surveyed are “extremely satisfied” with their job — roughly in line with the past three years.

3. Additionally, 51% of workers said they are actively seeking a new job, compared to 44% to 49% throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. Gallup identified four key themes tied to disengagement: culture, leadership transparency, resource investment and performance management.

5. More than 30% of all respondents — and 44% of Gen Z workers — said their workplace feels isolated or impersonal. About the same share cited a lack of consistent, clear or honest communication with leadership.

6. To address these issues, Gallup recommends leaders prioritize frequent and meaningful feedback with their teams.
