PAs are in demand: 5 findings

Job opportunities are plentiful for certified physician assistants, according to a survey from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

The survey took place in 2017 among 6,843 recently certified PAs.

Five findings:

1. More than 77 percent of respondents had at least two job offers and an average starting salary of almost $95,000. 

2. Nearly 80 percent of respondents who have accepted a position reported no challenges when searching for a job.

3. Respondents in radiation oncology, occupational medicine, gynecology, emergency medicine and psychiatry had the highest salaries.

4. The median age for respondents is 27 years old, with an age range of 22 to 64.

5. Respondents are practicing in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The greatest number of respondents practice in New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, California, North Carolina, and Texas.
