Two ICU registered nurses have filed separate complaints with the Delaware Department of Labor, alleging discrimination and a hostile work environment at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., Delaware News Journal reported July 9.

Dariane Turner, RN, and Eva Hardy, RN, were assigned to Beebe Healthcare through CareRev, a healthcare staffing app. In their complaints, the nurses allege racial harassment, unclear employment roles and retaliation after raising concerns.

Although both scheduled ICU shifts based on their experience level, they said they were frequently reassigned to other areas. They describe being placed in a six-bed progressive care unit separated from the main ICU by a partition that limited visibility and contact with other staff, according to the report.

In separate complaints filed with professional healthcare organizations, including American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, Ms. Hardy also detailed patient care concerns, citing failures to follow protocols, ignored vital signs and missing medical equipment.

Beebe Healthcare shared the following statement with Becker’s:

“At Beebe Healthcare, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and non-discriminatory workplace where patients can receive safe, high-quality care. We have responded to the Department of Labor claims with the appropriate documentation regarding our position, and these claims are still pending. The well-being of our patients and team members is — and will always be — of the utmost importance to Beebe. We remain dedicated to a safe and inclusive workplace, and to providing the highest-quality patient care to all we serve.”
