Healthcare job growth lags in March with 34K added

Healthcare gained 33,900 jobs in March, down from the average monthly gain of 54,000 over the prior six months, according to the latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

Five things to know:

1. The March count is lower than the 44,200 jobs added in February and the 58,200 jobs added in January.

2. Within healthcare, home healthcare services gained the most jobs in March (15,200), followed by ambulatory healthcare services (15,000).

3. Hospitals gained 10,900 jobs in March, compared with 19,400 jobs gained the month prior.

4. Nursing and residential care facilities gained 8,000 jobs in March, and physician offices gained 2,000 jobs.

5. Overall, the U.S. added 236,000 jobs in March, compared with 311,000 jobs in February.
