Healthcare adds 40K jobs in April

Healthcare gained 39,600 jobs in April, which is lower than the average monthly gain of 47,000 over the prior six months, according to the latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

Five things to know:

1. The April count is above the 33,900 jobs added in March but below the 44,200 jobs added in February.

2. Within healthcare, ambulatory healthcare services gained the most jobs in April (24,200).

3. Hospitals gained 6,600 jobs in April, compared with 10,900 jobs gained the month prior.

4. Nursing and residential care facilities gained 8,800 jobs in April, and physician offices gained 12,200 jobs.

5. Overall, the U.S. added 253,000 jobs in April, compared with 236,000 jobs in March.
