Judge Green-Lights Union's Lawsuit Against Kaiser

A National Union of Healthcare Workers' lawsuit against Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente can move forward after a federal judge denied Kaiser's motion for summary judgment.

The lawsuit alleges Kaiser aided Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West during a union election competition between SEIU-UHW and NUHW.

"We have a scenario in which [Kaiser] has given aid and comfort to one union with whom it is friendly in its fight to stave off a second, rival union from seeking to represent the workers," Judge William Alsup wrote, according to a NUHW news release.

The trial is scheduled for March 31.
