Baystate Franklin Nurses Plan 1-Day Strike

Nurses at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass., are planning a one-day strike for Feb. 10, according to a report by The Recorder.

Baystate Franklin's nurses are represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association. The two groups have been in contract negotiations for 28 months, according to the report.

Overtime pay is the main issue in the contract negotiations. Currently, nurses are paid a daily bonus for overtime; the hospital would like to change overtime pay to a weekly model based on a 40-hour work week.

If the strike occurs, it will be the second time Baystate Franklin nurses went on strike in two years: nurses walked out in October 2012 as well, according to The Recorder.

Nurses originally authorized the union to call a strike in October.

Baystate Franklin President Chuck Gijanto is "extremely disappointed" in the nurses' decision to strike, according to the report.
