This is a decrease from December, when healthcare added 39,400 jobs.
Within the healthcare industry, hospital employment grew the most, by 23,700 jobs in January. The next sector was ambulatory healthcare services, which added 10,700 jobs last month. Most of those (6,300) came from home healthcare services.
In total, healthcare has added 470,000 jobs over the past 12 months, with about two-fifths of the growth taking place in hospitals, according to the BLS.
