Here are four things to know about the contract extension.
1. The contract was extended through July 2.
2. Although the current contract was extended, the nurses, who are represented by the Maine State Nurses Association, and the hospital have not been able to come to an agreement on a new contract. EMMC officials said several proposals the union has been discussing have been resolved, but there has been little movement on staffing ratios and compensation, which remain the biggest issues on the table, according to the report.
3. The contract extension comes after nurses voted to authorize a strike earlier this month. Nurses could still go on strike the day after their contract ends, according to the report.
4. Bargaining teams will meet again June 24.
