Further, 18 percent of employees across the nation are actively disengaged, according to the report. When employees are actively disengaged, they miss more days, have more on-the-job accidents and account for more quality defects than others, according to the report. Employees who are simply not engaged are not hostile but, as Gallup puts it, are “checked out” and kill time at work.
Specific to the healthcare industry, physicians and nurses are slightly more likely to be engaged in their work: In 2012, 33 percent of nurses and 34 percent of physicians were engaged.
According to Gallup, when workers are engaged, companies have higher productivity and profitability, less employee turnover and fewer safety incidents.
