Under the collaboration, Postmates began running Walmart’s online grocery delivery service in Charlotte, N.C., on April 10. Walmart’s grocery delivery service is currently available in six markets — though the Postmates partnership only affects Charlotte at this time.
The partnership will allow thousands of Charlotte customers to shop for products like fresh produce, meat, seafood and bakery items online, and Postmates will deliver the items to customers’ homes.
Shoppers who order groceries online from Walmart will pay a flat delivery fee of $9.95. A shopper must order at least $30 worth of groceries to qualify for the home delivery option.
Walmart’s partnership comes as it faces greater competition from Amazon in the food delivery market. In early February, Amazon announced some customers with Prime memberships can receive free two-hour delivery of Whole Foods Market products.
