University of Washington Medical Center, home to the UW Medicine Regional Heart Center, specializes in cardiac care including advanced procedures and surgeries, medical assist devices and transplantation. UW Medical Center was the first hospital to achieve Magnet status for nursing excellence five times from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. It was also named one of the best hospitals in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery for 2014-15 by U.S. News & World Report. The Joint Commission further recognizes UW Medical Center as a Center of Excellence for its ventricular assist device program.
