Researchers surveyed breast cancer survivors on knowledge, goals and involvement in treatment decisions. They found the mean overall knowledge was 52.7 percent.
While 89 percent of survivors had treatment that aligned with their goals, survivors who preferred mastectomy had lower concordance of treatment and goals compared to those preferring partial mastectomy. In addition, only 48.6 percent of survivors said they were asked their preference of treatment.
