The hospital’s “Name Your New Healthcare Facility” contest, which launched in March, received nearly 170 submissions. The hospital’s senior leadership team chose 55 of those names to present to the board of trustees, which decided upon Cabinet Peaks Medical Center.
Carrie Schikora, a lifelong resident of Libby who submitted the new name, said the name is meant to connect the hospital to the environment and reflect the area’s beauty, according to the news release. Libby is home to the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, a mountain range with hiking trails that is part of the Kootenai National Forest.
SJLH CEO Bruce Whitfield said some culture changes will accompany the new name and replacement facility. “We are currently in the process of working with a transition consultant who is helping us ensure that we only take the best practices and the best of St. John’s to the new facility with us,” he said in the release.
The hospital is still designing a new logo.
