Police shoot, kill inmate after attack on deputy in Vanderbilt clinic

A police deputy shot and killed an inmate at Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt Medical Center at 100 Oaks Wednesday after the inmate began stabbing the officer’s partner, according to The Tennessean.

While the inmate was in the bathroom of the clinic with Deputy Josh Wiley, he tackled Mr. Wiley and started stabbing him with a screwdriver. Responding to Mr. Wiley’s calls for help, his partner, Deputy Tomisha Jones, shot at the inmate. The struggle then spilled out into the clinic hallway, where both deputies shot and killed the inmate.

The inmate had an unspecified medical condition that necessitated routine visits to the clinic. Mr. Wiley is in critical condition and Ms. Jones was unharmed.
