Marshall Health Network CFO to retire after 40 years; new finance role added

Huntington, W.Va.-based Marshall Health Network CFO Monte Ward will retire Aug. 31, 2025, after more than 40 years with the organization.

Four things to know:

1. Mr. Ward will continue in a consulting role from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025, helping ensure a smooth transition. Beginning Sept. 1, Kevin Barr will assume the role of Interim CFO while a national search begins for a permanent successor. 

2. Mr. Barr joined Marshall Health Network in May through Warbird Healthcare Advisors and has more than 30 years of healthcare operations and financial leadership experience. He previously served as senior vice president for Cincinnati-based Bon Secours, a $3.5 billion Catholic health system, according to a July 23 news release shared with Becker’s

3. A new corporate controller role has been created to strengthen financial operations. Lisa Postelwait will assume this position on an interim basis, also through Warbird Healthcare Advisors. She is a financial executive with more than 20 years of leadership experience, including roles at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and Oklahoma University Health in Oklahoma City.

4. Marshall Health Network is a nonprofit system that includes four hospitals and serves 1.4 million residents across West Virginia, southern Ohio, and eastern Kentucky, according to its website
