The 37-year-old, identified as Jeffery Lakin, is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and tampering with evidence, according to the City of Greensburg Police Department.
Over the weekend, hospital staff alerted police to suspicious activity related to Mr. Lakin’s room.
Officers subsequently stopped David Dahlmann as he was leaving the hospital and found 12 empty heroin stamp bags in his back pocket and more in the front seat of his vehicle. He allegedly told police he bought the heroin from Mr. Lakin in his hospital room, according to a WPXI news report.
Police searched Mr. Lakin’s room and found a duffel bag that contained more than $1,000 in cash, stamp bags of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Police arrested Mr. Lakin, and he’s currently at Westmoreland County Prison.
A hospital spokesperson told WPXI that staff are thankful the incident ended with an arrest, rather than an overdose.
Police arrested two other women as a result of the bust.
