Patient visits to a physician’s office were more likely (54 percent) to be covered by private insurance than by Medicare (25 percent) or Medicaid (12 percent). However, 37 percent of patients’ visits to outpatient departments were covered by private insurance, 19 percent by Medicare and 26 percent by Medicaid.
