Mountain View Regional Hospital first requested state approval to shut down the ED due to lack of patient volume last year. Since then, the state has altered hospital licensure regulations so some surgical hospitals may operate without EDs, according to the report.
Hospital officials confirmed they must address a range of concerns before determining whether they will close the ED, such as ensuring they have sufficient healthcare expertise to meet patients’ medical needs. Until then, the ED will remain open.
