Gallup: 49% of Americans Disapprove of PPACA, 30% Under-Informed

A Gallup poll released in the last five weeks before the opening of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s insurance exchange markets shows that 49 percent of Americans disapprove of the PPACA and 30 percent are ‘not familiar’ or ‘not familiar at all’ with the legislation.

The percentage of people who disapprove of the act has declined slightly from 52 percent in late June; however, the percentage of people who approve of the act has declined from 44 approval in midsummer, and the percentage of those who have no opinion has increased to 11 percent up from 4 percent in late June.

Americans ages 18 to 34 have the highest approval of the PPACA, at 44 percent, while Americans ages 35 to 54 have the highest disapproval ratings, at 54 percent.

Among the 30 percent of Americans unfamiliar with the PPACA, 12 percent is ‘not at all’ familiar and is 18 percent ‘not too’ familiar.

The group least familiar with the PPACA and its effects and provisions is Americans ages 18 to 34. Approximately 36 percent of young Americans are either ‘not too familiar’ or ‘not familiar at all’ with the healthcare law.
