FedEx offering pilots up to $110K not to retire before holiday season

FedEx is offering pilots approaching retirement age bonuses ranging from $40,000 to $110,000 to stay on the job through the busy holiday delivery season, according to Fortune.

Shipping companies have done record business during the last few holiday seasons, but federal laws require commercial pilots to give up their wings at 65 years old. Commercial pilots are also required to have 1,500 hours of flight time, which limits the pool for shipping companies..

Global demand for pilots has been rising, and Boeing estimates that by 2035 there will be a shortage of 800,000 pilots.
