The article is titled Engaging Doctors in The Health Care Revolution, and it provides strategies to engage physicians in redesigning care delivery to be more patient-centered.

In the article, Dr. Cosgrove and Dr. Lee address physician engagement through a framework inspired by economist and sociologist Max Weber.

The Weber framework focuses on the following:

  • Engaging physicians in a shared purpose
  • Addressing economic self-interest
  • Leveraging the desire for respect
  • Appealing to a sense of tradition

“Engaging physicians is a critical focus for leadership,” said Dr. Lee in a news release. “Any strategy healthcare providers hope to accomplish must have the support of their physicians.”
