  1. A U.S. district judge ruled in favor of Cigna following an Employee Retirement Income Security Act lawsuit that accused the insurer of unjustly denying claims made by former NFL players.
  2. The payer announced July 13 it had tapped Bonnie Evelyn to be market president of its Georgia and Alabama health plans. 
  3. Cigna released the third edition of its COVID-19 Vaccine Perception Study July 15. The study surveyed 13,000 people across 11 markets to highlight perceptions and attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines around the world.
  4. Cigna announced it was looking to launch a non-life insurance company in South Korea to complement its current life insurance company in the country, Lina Korea.
  5. The health insurer announced June 23 it would permanently close its Denison, Texas, center, shifting its 500 employees to a remote work model.
  6. A New Jersey judge dismissed a lawsuit June 30 alleging that Cigna refused coverage for a lab’s COVID-19 services.
  7. Cigna’s pharmacy benefit manager, Express Scripts, filed a lawsuit June 22 against the U.S., alleging that the Internal Revenue Service refused to pay the company $43 million in tax returns.
