Anesthesiologist Assistants May Soon Be Licensed in Maryland

Maryland may license anesthesiologist assistants to provide care under the supervision of a licensed anesthesiologist, according to laws proposed in the state House and Senate.

The American Society of Anesthesiologists supports the bills, saying that anesthesiologist assistants are qualified and supports them as members of the Anesthesia Care Team. Johns Hopkins University also supports these laws, citing the state’s shortage of anesthesiologists.
