AHA Announces New Committee on Governance Leaders

The American Hospital Association has announced that Stephen Smart, DDS, will be chair and Penny Brooke will be chair-elect for the AHA’s 2010 Committee on Governance, according to an AHA news release.

The COG is a specialty committee of the AHA Board of Trustees and is responsible for leading effective involvement of the nation’s hospital trustees in grassroots advocacy, providing input into AHA’s policy development, enhancing communication with and involvement of trustees in the AHA and providing advice on AHA’s trustee initiatives, according to the release.

Dr. Smart runs a private oral and maxillofacial surgery practice and is board chair of the Medical Center of Southern Arkansas in El Dorado, Ark. He has served on the COG since 2006, according to the release.

Ms. Brooke is a professor at the University of Utah College of Nursing and is a licensed psychiatric nurse specialist. She serves on the board of the IHC Central Urban Region and has been a member of the COG and the AHA’s Regional Policy Board for Region 8 since 2007, according to the release.
