6 Freestanding Emergency Department Openings

Here is a list of six freestanding emergency departments that are being planned or have opened in the last six months.

1. New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C., announced that it has submitted a certificate of need application with the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation to build a freestanding emergency department in Wilmington.

2. Richland, Wash.-based Kadlec Regional Medical Center’s freestanding $17 million emergency room in Kennewick, Wash., opened in June.

3. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City announced the dedication of the W. P. Carey Emergency Unit, which can function as a freestanding, self-contained mini-emergency department.

4. Wilmington, Del.-based Christiana Care Health System opened its $34 million freestanding emergency department in Middleton, Del., in April. 

5. Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, opened a $6 million freestanding emergency department in Jamestown, Ohio, in March.

6. Temple, Texas-based Scott & White Healthcare opened its Cedar Park (Texas) Hospital, an emergency care facility in February.
