Telemedicine adoption 25% higher among female physicians

Since the coronavirus pandemic started, female physicians have been 25 percent more likely to adopt telemedicine than male physicians, according to a July 9 Doximity report.

For the analysis, Doximity examined rates of physician adoption of its telemedicine tool Dialer Video. More than 100,000 U.S. physicians use the app for telemedicine regularly, according to the report.

The analysis covers data of physician adoption since the pandemic began as well as its continued usage as state shelter-in-place orders are lifted.

Here are three report insights:

1. In addition to the gender disparity, physicians age 40 and older are using telemedicine more often than physicians in their 30s.

2. The top five specialties most actively using telemedicine are endocrinology, rheumatology, nephrology, gastroenterology and cardiology.

3. The top five states with the highest physician adoption of telemedicine are Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Maryland and Illinois.
