US devicemakers launch certification for critical medical devices and PPE

The American Medical Manufacturers Association, an alliance of U.S. medical equipment manufacturers, has introduced a new certification program for U.S.-made medical supplies and personal protective equipment. 

The seal is aimed at identifying products manufactured domestically and supporting efforts to strengthen the U.S. medical supply chain, according to an April 3 press release shared with Becker’s

The launch comes amid shifting U.S. trade policy, including President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of reciprocal tariffs aimed at reducing dependence on imports, the release said. 

According to AMMA, the certification will apply to critical medical devices and PPE that meet U.S. manufacturing and safety standards, including compliance with OSHA, NFPA and ANSI. Manufacturers also must be AMMA members and agree to the association’s terms before using the seal.
