Through the venture, called the MonarchFx Alliance, Tompkins International will team up with third-party logistics providers Kenco Logistics and NFI Interactive Logistics, along with the software developer JDA Software Group, to offer same-day, next-day and two-day deliveries across the country. An unnamed delivery firm, financial backer and another third party logistics provider are also involved with the alliance, according to the report.
MonarchFx plans to enlist footwear and apparel vendors to stock its six distribution centers by July and start shipping orders by August, said James Tompkins, founder of Tompkins International.
By creating a network of local fulfillment centers, Mr. Tompkins hopes to disrupt the traditional hub-and-spoke model of distribution centers performing last-mile delivery from large, centralized sites, according to the report.
