Sen. Amy Klobuchar calls on Teleflex to fix defective naloxone spray

Sen. Klobuchar on Thursday sent a letter to Teleflex CEO Benson Smith detailing the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office’s struggle to replace the faulty devices. Teleflex first recalled the product in October.

“Law enforcement officers are working hard to combat the devastating opioid abuse epidemic in my state and around the country,” she wrote in the letter. “It is essential that they are equipped with the tools needed to do their jobs and that they can rely on those tools to work in an emergency.”

Sen. Klobuchar goes on to insist Wayne, Pa.–based Teleflex immediately ensure the applicator functions properly and replace all defective shipments.

On Wednesday, a company spokeswoman told the StarTribune Teleflex was experiencing a temporary shortage of the nasal applicator and is gradually replacing the devices as more become available.
