Owens & Minor, a global supply distribution and logistics company, is enhancing two U.S. facilities that supply healthcare products.

A newly opened distribution site in West Virginia now features “advanced automation and robotics technology” to streamline inventory management and order fulfilment, Owens & Minor said in an April 10 news release.

Another facility under construction in South Dakota is expected to open this spring. Once operational, it will incorporate an augmented reality system to assist with the order picking process.

“Over the past two years, our [Products & Healthcare Services] teammates have worked creatively and diligently to identify areas where technology investments, operational upgrades and new approaches to how we do business could have a meaningful impact for our customers,” said Andy Long, executive vice president and CEO of Owens & Minor’s healthcare unit.

The company said more investments in technology, automation and analytics are underway.

Owens & Minor serves more than 4,000 healthcare provider facilities worldwide, according to its website
