FDA approves Eisai’s epilepsy drug for partial-onset seizures

The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved Eisai’s epilepsy drug Fyompa as a primary treatment for partial-onset seizures in epileptic patients 12 years or older.

  1. Fycompa is a once-daily tablet patients take before bed.
  1. The agency first approved Fyompa in 2012 as an adjunct therapy for partial-onset seizures. The drug can now be used as a sole treatment for the condition.
  1. The drug acts as an agonist to limit the overstimulation of neurons associated with seizures.
