Kristen Lane, a Vitalant spokesperson, said that the number of donors has declined by more than half over the last few years and called the shortage a health crisis.
“Western Pennsylvania is suffering because of the lack of blood,” she told the Observer Reporter. “We need our community to realize that this is a health crisis. We need more donors to help us.”
Ms. Lane said that after Vitalant closes, donors can give blood at Washington (Pa.) Hospital or the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center.
