The Bethlehem, Pa.-based medical products manufacturer will build a new distribution facility in Daytona Beach, Fla., and expand its facilities in Allentown, Pa. and Irvine, Calif. It will also expand two distribution facilities.
The investment, called Solutions for Life, is B. Braun’s response to the shortage of IV fluids, which are crucial in the healthcare system to hydrate patients, administer drugs and replace lost blood volume.
“IV fluids are a fundamental component of patient care. In recent years, the U.S. market has seen destructive weather events and severe influenza seasons contributing to major nationwide IV fluid shortages. These shortages forced healthcare professionals and facilities to delay patient treatments or use alternate techniques,” said Maria Angela Karpf, MD, corporate vice president for B. Braun Medical.
