Amazon develops smart shelf that automatically repurchases supplies

Amazon announced Nov. 21 that it has created a smart shelf, dubbed the Amazon Dash Smart Shelf, that automatically reorders supplies when running low, according to CNBC.

The new shelf, which also serves as a scale, is made in small, medical and large sizes. Once organizations connect to their Amazon Business or Amazon Shipping account, you tell Amazon what supplies you are keeping on the shelf. When the scale notices the weight of supplies has decreased, it will reorder the necessary supplies.

Organizations that are skeptical about automatically reordering can opt-out. Instead, Amazon will send them a notification that the supplies need to be reordered.

Amazon also included features that help prevent accidental reorders if supplies are temporarily removed from the shelf.

The shelfs will be available to the public beginning next year.
