Where drug use is highest, lowest

New Mexico has the highest drug use and Hawaii has the lowest, according to an analysis published May 3 by WalletHub, a personal finance website.

To determine where drug abuse is most pronounced and which areas are most at risk, analysts compared states and the District of Columbia using 20 metrics across three categories: drug use and addiction; law enforcement; and drug health issues and rehab. Metrics range from arrest and overdose rates to opioid prescriptions and employee drug testing laws. Read more about the methodology here.
